To diehard fans, Gilmore Girls isn’t just a show, it’s a lifestyle. (Just like the Donna Reid Show was to Lorelai and Rory.) Whether you are just planning on binge watching alone or planning a viewing party with friends, I present you with 10 foods you need to have on hand at all times. This isn’t the definitive list of Lorelai and Rory’s fave foods; it is a list of the items that are easiest to have handy or purchase ahead of time and require little or no effort on your part to make–which really is the Gilmore way.
Please note that this list takes special dietary needs into ZERO consideration and eating a combination of the items on this list will more than likely provide a raging case of indigestion unless you already have a Gilmore iron stomach.
Donuts: I opt for mini donuts because I can grab them fast at the store and I feel less guilty eating a bunch of small donuts as opposed to a large one. I know the truth, so please don’t shatter my fantasy.
Twinkies: If it has been a while since you had a Twinkie, you need to try one again. It had been at least 25 years sine I had a Twinkie and when I finally had one again, I had basically forgotten they were little pillows of yumminess.
Rocky Road Cookies: Who doesn’t love Sookie’s specialty and Dean’s favorite? I make these super easy cookies and freeze them for when I really need them. Click here for the recipe.
Red Vines: Because NO Gilmore Girls viewing is complete without Red Vines! For added points, bite off the top and bottom and sip your favorite “pink drink,” Founders’ Day Punch or a Coke through them like a straw.
Pop Tarts: As a Gilmore staple, these are basically a must.
Tater Tots: See, this list isn’t just sweet. Tater tots are made out of potato, which kind of means you are getting a serving of vegetables, right?
Coffee: I think this goes without saying, but just a gentle reminder that viewing sessions should always be fueled by java. If it is holiday time, you can score extra points by crabbing some of the Coffee Mate Peppermint Mocha creamer to create the candy cane coffee Rory and Lorelai crave in season seven at Weston’s Bakery.
Pizza: Whether it is frozen, ordered via speed dial or in the form of Bagel Bites, pizza is a must for all home viewing endeavors.
Apples: Ok. So you need something “healthy” on this list, thus I give you apples, as they are basically the only fruit willingly consumed on the show.
Chocolate Pudding: Lorelai doesn’t just love chocolate pudding; she “worships it.” Keep a box of instant pudding mix (and milk) on hand and you can be Gilmore-ready within 10 minutes if you don’t have any of these other items in the house. Extra points if you serve it in a crystal bowl… with a post-it on it. (If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, go rewatch season 1.)
